The Substance (film) - Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley, Dennis Quaid

Looks interesting - the director has co-directed a handful of movies I quite enjoyed and were certainly visually very impressive (Amer and also The Strange Colour of Your Body's Tears).

I need to review this film in two parts...

The first 3/4 - Fairly enjoyable and beautifully shot, if rather gratituous; at times it almost felt like Perfect with loads of nudity and close up dancing crotch and arse shots.

The final 1/4 - It seems to go off the rails and suddendly decide it needs to offer gore akin to Braindead.

I wouldn't bother watching this film again, mainly because the final 1/4 just felt lost (even with the 'loads of nudity and close up dancing crotch and arse shots' )

First 3/4 - 7/10
Final 1/4 - 3.5/10
