Re: TWD: Daryl Dixon spin off series
I've just finished re-watching season one - and I said it before, but I'll say it again - it's by far and away the best of the spin-offs, by a massive margin. Beautiful use of location filming, some intriguing ideas, a few emotional moments in one way or another, a well-balanced tone, and a fresh-feeling vibe to familiar material.
I really enjoyed it and I'm quite looking forward to season two.

Re: TWD: Daryl Dixon spin off series
Okay, so two episodes into season two.
It's definitely still worth watching, but there have been a couple of poor bits of writing in each episode...
2x01:
2x02:
Other than those two bits that just didn't work for me, I'm still digging it ... although on the strength of these first two episodes, it's a bit of a step down from season one, but I'm holding out hope it'll pick up and shake off the rust and rally for the remaining four episodes (and season 3 next year!)

2x01:
- Spoiler:
- How Carol is able to convince airplane dude to take her to France was a bit clunky and too unrealistic.
If, say, the dude had been in a real state, emotionally speaking, really shut down from the world and really only 'existing' rather than living in any kind of way (imagine him totally bedraggled and just kind of in a limbo or purgatory state), but then Carol comes along, he begins to come out of his cave, and latches onto this mission, despite it's inherit danger, as it finally being something - anything - for him to do with his life ... something like that would've made it play better IMHO.
2x02:
- Spoiler:
- The way Carol just lets creepy lady pick up and load Daryl's crossbow was just stupid. She's no dummy, she's survived all these years - and she just lets someone do that? Come on now!
You could have easily written around that some how to get the weapon in the weirdo's hands.

Re: TWD: Daryl Dixon spin off series
I have enjoyed the series so far. Just watched S02 E03.
One thing that bugs me is that this series could have held its own without Daryl or Carol. The reason this series is good is the location.
When the spin-off was hinted at I was hoping that this series would be a story solely about the French and Europeans with new characters and their take on the phenomenon. We know our French cousins created it, so that story would have worked.
Daryl is just John Wick in the TWD universe and though I am enjoying it I have almost had enough.

Re: TWD: Daryl Dixon spin off series
Something I quite disliked from 2x03 was Daryl using a bow and arrow and managing to kill every bad guy with a guy that he faced off with - they had the drop on him, got him in their sights, and they just pause and allow him to get him.
Again, this is just one of those things where if you just shoot it a different way, change the blocking a little bit etc, then it'd work - but they've just gone the lazy route with a set-up like that, which is a shame.
The first season worked really well in-part because of the fish-out-of-water aspect with Daryl, of all people, in France. This second season is, as you suggest MMM, feeling a bit like the main show again but it's just in France ... the first season felt more unique, and that was a big part of why it worked so well. I'd dearly hope that season three (which moves to Spain, apparently) remembers to re-inject that unique cultural flavour and POV into proceedings.
Also - the people who want to 'test' Laurent ... ... they didn't think about maybe trying some scientific research? A bit of examination of his blood, some virology, perhaps? Nah, just leap straight into trying to get him bit.
And that's another thing - the way that one side character died? What a punk-ass way to get snuffed out ... the character felt tossed aside just because they needed a zombie.
