New forum discussion - Thoughts?
Any comments on this as a replacement?

I'm sure there's plenty of things you can tinker with to settle us in, but first impressions are good - it's a familiar feel structurally, if that makes sense?
Could we get a Loom-like colour scheme for this regeneration, perhaps?

Functionality wise and friendliness wise it seems pretty spot on. Even down to me being able to increase the default size a YouTube video is displayed as (ie: I've changed it so it's like the YouTubeHD tag back on the old forum).

Re: New forum discussion - Thoughts?
I just noticed that posting a YouTube video is very similar, but actually better - automatically goes HD and you don't have to trim the URL down (that's done automatically, too).
There's a lot of familiarity about it overall, just small things to get used to and find the button for etc - but only minor things whilst you get the full swing of it.

Yes, managed to program it so youtube videos are automatically nice and big (bigger than back on the old forum).MinionZombie wrote:I just noticed that posting a YouTube video is very similar, but actually better - automatically goes HD and you don't have to trim the URL down (that's done automatically, too).

Re: New forum discussion - Thoughts?
Is there a way to display threads so that the newest post is at the top, rather than the bottom, btw?

Not sure I understand?MinionZombie wrote:Is there a way to display threads so that the newest post is at the top, rather than the bottom, btw?
If I look at the Crematorium (test) forum at the moment, the three threads in there were created in the following order:-
- "Testiung signature"
- "A second test thread"
- "A third thread"
But they are displayed in the order of the last reply to each one, like the old forum? ie: A reply to a thread pushed it back to the top of the list:-
- "A second test thread"
- "A third thread"
- "Testiung signature"
Note: There is a "Sort" option offered to display them in (reply) date/reverse date order.

Re: New forum discussion - Thoughts?
What I was meaning was posts within each thread - not the threads themselves.
So, at the moment, I go into a thread and the newest reply is at the bottom of the replies. On the vBulletin forum there was a setting (not that I can remember where it was, mind you) that allowed you to display it so that the newest reply within a thread would be at the top ... so it basically inverted the order of posts within a thread, basically, a sort of reverse order.
Does that make sense? I wasn't explaining myself well beforehand.
Where's this "sort" button of which you speak? Oh wait, found it - although that seems to only be for each forum/sub-forum - not within individual threads themselves? The latter is what I'm after.
...
Also - yes, the mobile version is pretty nice - displays well, makes sense. Although the HPOTD logo image wasn't displaying (was just a big grey box with the "Dedicated to..." text.

There is a configuration to set each forum to date/reverse date order of the posts within it. But from what I can see this cannot be done by users within the forum on the fly.
The sort option I was refering to is when you're looking in a forum and can see all the threads within it. There is a SORT button which allows you to sort those threads in date/reverse date order.

Re: New forum discussion - Thoughts?
BTW - As the forum stands at the moment, the host will start putting a couple of adverts onto each page.
We can evaluate this. If it's tolerable, fine. If it's a pain I'll have to open my wallet to get rid of them.

OK, widgets added down the right of the forum...
Two options there:-
- Display like currently, down the right on every page.
- Or, it can be done only on the main page, across the very bottom.
^ I like how it is at the moment having tried both

Sorry, but as soon as you scroll down enough all you've got on the right hand side is a big blank space squishing the posts and making them look small and visually unappealing - it'd be much better to have this info on the bottom IMHO, where it's usually been.
It also screws up posts with YouTube vids in - see here:

^ I've enabled the footer variant on just the MAIN page, and disabled the SIDE variant.
The bottom variant can be on ALL pages or just the MAIN page (as currently).

Re: New forum discussion - Thoughts?
Ah, that's much better.
...
Is it possible to add a button linking to the main forum page to the top bar (visible when posting in a thread, say)? The one where you have the Forumotion link, the search bar, etc? Just a quick way to loop back to the main forum rather than having to scroll all the way up to the top to click on the logo?
Bit of a nit pick, I know. :p

Changing that "Forumotion" to go to your own forum main page is part of the paid features. So if I end up paying, that'll come along with it.
Note: Under every poster's details is "Top". So it means you can get back to the main page by clicking "Top"... Then clicking the HPotD logo top left.

1) Is it possible to add a link on that bar, or is it solely the paid option? I presume the latter?
2) Ah! I'm still getting used to these buttons ... ... *paws around like a blindfolded kitty*

Re: New forum discussion - Thoughts?
1) Nothing can be added to that top navigation bar. The "Forumotion" link can only be altered (to this forum's main page) if the paid option is taken.

I thought it looked a smidge on the smallish size beforehand. Nice one.

Hey, kaos!
A few different buttons to get used to, but generally quite familiar. BTW - I called dibs on that room over there already, sooo...
